I thought I would also add my thoughts for what its worth so that there's more feedback than just a number in the poll. By the way, I voted a "4".
a. Personally, I really enjoy the pictures I see from this group in particular. Of the pictures I see from different groups, I tend to favorite the most pictures from this group than any other. In addition, I also tend to be inspired more by the photos coming from here than other groups. I really appreciate the high standard because I don't have to do as much "weeding" so to speak.
b. I felt like by the name and the description of the group, this would be a very friendly community where I could learn and improve by being in it, seeing the pictures, and contributing. And of course, hopefully getting a lot of useful comments/critiques.
c. Admittedly, I WAS a bit disappointed when I kept getting my submissions denied. It gave me the impression that this was actually a closed-gate community so-to-speak, and I was only allowed to look in, but could never be a part of it. There's some appeal to cridefea's suggestion both about having a more specific description of what this group is looking for.
d. However, what I found later and like immensely was that when I gathered enough courage to ask why a particular photo was not accepted and ask for a critique, I really appreciated and enjoyed what I got. I received a very detailed, and frankly incredible critique which I understood. It conveyed the feeling that they were passionate and interested in photography and helping others to continue to progress.

e. I also had an idea towards attracting more contributors which does not include lowering the standards at all. Personally, I'd love reading general tips such as the angle/triangle and rule of thirds. (the only tips I know of currently D,: Which is why I'd love reading about more). I'd love like... little tutorials every so often that might include like.. basic picture tips to more specific genres (such as fashion vs glamour, etc), and picture breakdowns where you can see what makes a particular picture good. I do realize that would be a lot of work though so I know that it's a little ridiculous of a suggestion, but I think it would be really neat and I think it would accomplish two things: it would encourage photographers, help improve the technical skills of those photographers, and eventually as they get good enough to meet the higher standard, they could then become contributers.

P.S. Sorry. Long comment. I was trying to give the best feedback, but it might be a little troublesome. Also, I want to leave on the note that I really do like this group a lot and I enjoy what it has in place already as well. I think THAT's why there are so many members (that they also enjoy this group as much as I do).

Wow!! Thank you so much for the input, we're very glad you find the critiquing system helpful. I think what we'll do in the near future is find someone who is willing to write up a blog for the group (or each of our contributors will write something every so often) about different photography techniques and tutorials and such, that sounds like a REALLY good idea! :)

Thanks for inspiring this!! :D

I think high standards are not bad but you have to be more clear in the rule, maybe you can explain the way you usually choose devs. You are a big group but the risk is that people stay here without can contribute to and this can sound like you "use" a big number of people...don't know if I have explained it well. Maybe you can create a section for people who do pretty works but not as good as you want and use it for giving advices, helping them to grow and making them confident.

We definitely try not to be an "elitist" group, we try to promote "passionate" art... Art that makes us literally say "WOW!" - you know what I mean?

Regarding the number of members we have, well, we can't exactly just start kicking people out of the group because they aren't contributing. Maybe they will some day, and I'm sorry that the number of members that we have makes it seem like we're 'too popular' - it's really not something we can control.

Sorry but i was saying another thing: they CAN'T contribute not they aren't.......Peolple that will never see own works in the gruop but that are members (I mean this: We currently have 8,889 members and the subscription costs 4,796 points! If you donate even 1 or 2 points we can easily reach that goal! Becoming a super group etc...).But that's ok if this is the standard, you have only to rewrite the rules in the home page. Not that things like "you have to ask yourself..."

Then what do you suggest we write instead? If expressing your thoughts in English is difficult, we have a moderator that speaks Italian, so you could send him your suggestion if you'd like and he might be able to translate to the rest of us. :) (*kenderson)

She says: "The criteria, I already told you!!! What is beautiful to me, needn’t be the same to you. It would be more honest, if you made clear what you expect to see in your group. Or else you'll end up being a big group with the most members watching and just a few allowed to see their work published... I wonder how many they are out of 8000. Anyway, mine's just an advice, I'm telling you what people understand from the outside, then the group is yours, certainly not mine. If you ask, I reply XD"

I criteri l'avevo già detto!!!!
