Artist's Feature #18: JacquelineBarkla
"Photography, to me, has always been about expressing myself. A photograph can convey so much, one image can effect a lot of people in a lot of different ways - their own ways, and that's beautiful. Creativity is endless, no two images are the same, there are no limits or guidelines or right or wrong, you make photography your own and that's what is so appealing about photography to most people like myself. It is also to me a big part about being able to bring out the beauty in the world around us, beauty that many of us overlook every day."
"With a camera, sometimes I think you are given a third eye, we can see the world in a way that the naked eye is just not capable of."
"I started in photography many years ago! I've always been more creative than anything and wanted to explore all creative avenues. Once I bought my first DSLR, things quickly snowballed and photography became a lifelong passion. My favourite style is emotive/expressive portraits - I love it, people can convey so much depth in such simplistic ways, we connect to these photographs and relate. My other favourite is landscape/nature photography - it fascinates me, we live in such a organically breathtaking world and we are able to share that with each other in the most amazing ways with photography - long exposure star trails, a magical sunrise or sunset, a beautiful storm or rays of light over a landscape...it's endless. I think photography has a way of capturing the small things in life, its beauty is that it can capture a fleeting moment and make it big, make something out of nothing, showcase what otherwise would have been overlooked, forgotten, or ignored. We get to share that moment and keep it forever."

...you break up with your girlfriend of seven years and go about your merry way because you weren't really in love with her anyway.
that's how that saying goes, right?
goodnight, sweet angel
hello, all - just a brief update I felt needed to be made here... those of you who have been following me for a while know my pup Macie very well. she has been my best (albeit sometimes fussy) model since I started with photography at 15. she has been battling a mysterious cancerous illness since 2011 and today, she has crossed over Rainbow Bridge. five years ago we decided to start chemo treatments with her, and she responded very well, returning to her bouncy, wubbie-like self. however, failing kidneys were responsible for dimming her bright golden light, and we said our goodbyes today around 3pm.
love you, sweet girl. even though we had s

It's officially been 10 years since my teenage self created an account for this crazy, inspirational community. I'm always grateful for the friends I've made and the art I've been exposed to/learned from here.

PSA :)
Public Service Announcement: Favoriting a dozen of so of my works that can be found on the first page of my gallery does not impress me, nor does it make me grateful. Seeing that you hop from gallery to gallery and mindlessly favorite THOUSANDS of random deviations and those that have been recently uploaded to dA is pretty telling. I'm sorry, what is the purpose of this? Pageviews? It's disheartening to see you tricking people into thinking you like their work who will then (naively) peruse through your gallery to show their appreciation for your "attention"? I'm not so much mad as I am sad so many people are showing their gratitude towards y
