On the cropping, a square or a horizonal 3:4 rectangle in the top half would be good, starting from a bit below the top of the picture.
3:2 is wider. Width is one and half times height [link] [link]
You get a 3 by 4 or 3x4 photo with a compact camera, while 3:2 you get with an SLR. But I crop them either way.
